Since 1919, when we began trading as R.Kirkland & Son we have worked successfully with many local and national construction companies. We have also worked with most local authorities, health authorities, government departments, Housing associations & private Clients in the North East region.
Our ability to compete in this highly competitive industry has been enhanced by our long standing relationships with local sub-contractors to provide a complete mechanical services package. Incorporating ventilation, sprinkler, electrical & controls systems, into our projects.
We have extensive experience in providing Mechanical installations for a wide range of projects up to the value of £2,000,000. From small works and maintenance to full building renovations and new build projects. We also work in schools, factory units, colleges, academies, leisure centres, office blocks, Churches, Hotels and public buildings.
We provide a full and efficient service including the production of detailed cost plans and high quality installations from site set up to commissioning, handover, aftercare and maintenance.

The History of 'Kirkland
In 1919 Robert Kirkland set up his own business as ‘R.Kirkland & Sons Plumbing & Sanitary Ware' from Bridge Street in Blyth Northumberland. They worked for local businesses, shops and homeowners, later renaming R. Kirkland & Sons, they gained an excellent reputation across the region which is still held dear today.
In the late 1940's Robert's son Hughie Kirkland joined the firm and set about expanding the already thriving business, which remained at Bridge Street in Blyth. The company continued to grow and took on much bigger contracts, so much so that, in 1974 R.Kirkland & Sons became a limited company, renaming to Robert Kirkland (Blyth) Ltd.
Mr. Robert Kirkland retired in the late 1960's, leaving his son to run and continue building the business. Shortly after becoming a limited company, Dennis Kelk joined the business to work, buying a controlling share from Hughie.
This partnership continued the success from previous years right up until Hughie Kirkland's retirement in the mid 1980's, creating an opening for Jim McGlen, who joined in 1986. Between Dennis & Jim, Robert Kirklands' reputation became cemented within the mechanical services industry across the North East region.
Dennis Kelk retired in 1993, having been bought out by Jim McGlen.
Jim's two sons Chris & Paul later joined the business in 1993 & 1995 respectively; both working their way up through the company.
